If I Had One More Year With My Father

Daily writing prompt
If you could relive one year of your life, which one would it be?

I think I would want to relive the year when my father was still with us. I wish I could see him again, affectionately hug him, and experience that immense happiness once more.

I would speak to him for as long as I could and seek his guidance for my future life. And finally, I would apologize to him for not being able to take care of him the way I wish I could have at that time.

Whatever time I was allotted during that one year, I would make sure to take good care of him and cherish every moment with him.

I wish this could happen, but alas, it is not to be.

  1. She thought the flowers meant he was finally thinking about her again. After years without them, she felt loved, appreciated, and remembered.

Then she saw the message on his phone and discovered a life he had been hiding, the flirting, the pictures, the plans, and the affection he had stopped giving her.

Suddenly, those flowers felt completely different. And the hardest part was remembering how often she had blamed herself. She wondered if she was not affectionate enough, attractive enough, or easy enough to love.

But she finally understood something, she had spent months trying to fix herself for something she never broke.

Months later, she bought herself the same flowers. This time, they were not an apology from someone who hurt her. They were a reminder that she could finally give herself the love she had been begging someone else to give.
