What’s a book you never finished but still think about?
Three book series immediately come to my mind:
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin
The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
The Elenium by David Eddings
These are grand fantasy series, with a magnificent scale of world-building.
In the case of A Song of Ice and Fire, after reading the first book, A Game of Thrones, I was devastated by the death of Lord Ned Stark. This was the first time I had read this type of story, and I was genuinely very sad. Afterwards, I continued reading up to the third book, but later couldn’t complete the series due to other commitments. I have all the books in the main series, but I have yet to read them. I’ll definitely read them one day. I also promised myself that I would eventually watch the TV adaptation, Game of Thrones only after completely reading the main series.
About The Wheel of Time, I can say that it is a very long series and one of the longest stories I have ever read. I completed eight books and was reading the ninth book during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the pandemic, I had so much work to do, along with other responsibilities, that I stopped reading and didn’t start again until now.I have to finish this series too. It has almost become a thorn in my side, pricking me whenever I remember that I still haven’t finished it. There is a strange feeling of unfinished business whenever I think about this series.
Finally The Elenium series by David Eddings. There’s no specific reason why I couldn’t finish this one. It’s only a three-book series. After finishing the first and second books, I took some time to buy the third book. By the time I got it, however, I couldn’t get back into the series and eventually left it unfinished. I have to finish this one too.
Maybe one day, I’ll finally finish all of these epic journeys.
