If you could rewrite any book’s ending, which one would you choose?

I have already answered this prompt before, and my answer remains the same.

An author’s ending is part of the story they wanted to tell. Once it’s written, I don’t think it should be changed, even if I don’t personally like or agree with it.

That’s simply the way the story was meant to be.

There are book endings that I wish had turned out differently, but I’ve learned to accept them for what they are.

Endings that I didn’t like were the death of Lord Ned Stark in A Game of Thrones and Eragon, death of Albus Dumbledore in HP and Saphira leaving Alagaësia at the end of The Inheritance Cycle. I would have loved to see Ned survive and witness Eragon and Saphira continue their adventures in Alagaësia.

But changing those endings would also change the meaning of those stories. As much as they hurt, they are part of what makes those books so memorable.

So, if I could rewrite any book’s ending, I still wouldn’t. I’d rather respect the author’s vision, even when it breaks my heart.
