Some stories are best left exactly as they are. Trying to expand them can sometimes dilute what made the original special. A sequel may fail to capture the same magic, and in some cases, it can even lessen the impact of the first book.
Interestingly, many books that truly deserved sequels have already received them.
I also don’t think I’ve read enough books yet to confidently say which book deserves a continuation. Perhaps if this WordPress prompt appears again a few years from now, after I’ve explored many more books, I’ll have a better answer.
That said, the sequel I’m waiting for most is the next book in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. I know it may still be a long wait, but I’m excited nonetheless.
I’ve already read Murtagh and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a darker tone than the earlier books, but I loved returning to Alagaësia and seeing the world through Murtagh’s eyes. Now I’m eagerly looking forward to discovering where Paolini takes the story next.
