My Favorite Holiday: The Joy of Family Gatherings and Togetherness

What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

My favorite kind of holiday is not just about a specific festival, but about a feeling, when all family members gather together for festivities like Sankranthi or Ugadi in our village and celebrate as one.

In our culture, there is something called a joint family, where multiple generations live under one roof. I have always loved that idea. Being surrounded by grandparents, cousins, uncles, and aunts creates a warmth that is hard to describe. There is always noise, laughter, shared meals, and a strong sense of belonging.

Unfortunately, I did not grow up in a joint family. My father moved to the city for work, and we became a nuclear family. Still, I got a glimpse of that life during festival visits to our relatives’ villages. Those moments, eating together, talking late into the night, and celebrating as a big family are memories I truly cherish.

If I had to choose a specific holiday, I would say Christmas especially in New York. This desire started after watching Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The festive lights, decorations, and joyful atmosphere in the city left a lasting impression on me. Ever since then, I have wanted to experience Christmas in New York at least once in my life.

  2. The joint family sounds interesting to me. I live with extended family, too, and it has pros and cons, too.
