In the traditional sense, I would say no. I don’t really believe that a black cat crossing my path can change the course of my day, or that breaking a mirror will bring years of bad luck.
But the question made me think about something deeper — the difference between superstition and paradigm.
A superstition is a belief that certain actions or events bring good or bad luck, even when there is no real evidence behind it. These beliefs often come from traditions, culture, or old stories that people have carried through generations.
A paradigm, however, is a little different. It is the mental framework through which we see and interpret the world. Our paradigms shape how we understand reality, how we make decisions, and how we respond to life.
If superstition is a belief about luck, then a paradigm is a belief about how the world works.
For example, someone may believe that success comes from hard work and persistence. That belief becomes their paradigm, and it influences the actions they take every day.
In that sense, paradigms are powerful. They quietly guide our thoughts and behaviors, often without us even noticing.
Superstitions may influence small moments in life, but paradigms influence the direction of life itself.
So if I had to answer the question honestly, I would say that I’m not very superstitious. But I am deeply interested in the paradigms that shape our thinking.
Because sometimes, changing a superstition may change a moment.
But changing a paradigm can change an entire life.
Abandon superstition. Change limiting paradigms.
