When Responsibility Became My Teacher

Daily writing prompt
What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

I used to be weak-willed, with low self-confidence and self-esteem. I felt like I couldn’t accomplish anything and had no clear direction in life. I simply followed the guidance of people around me.

Everything changed with the death of my father. Suddenly, I was pushed into the spotlight, and a great responsibility fell upon me. As they say, when one door closes, another opens.

During that difficult time, I gained the wisdom that shaped the person I am today. Without that experience, my life might have taken a completely different path. I may not have learned how to accept responsibility or face challenges with courage.

This transformation began during my college days but accelerated the most after my father’s passing. That period became the turning point of my life, teaching me lessons I still carry today.

Since then, my learning has never stopped. There is a Japanese concept called Shoshin, which means maintaining a beginner’s mind — the mindset of staying a lifelong learner, no matter how much you already know. I try to live by that principle, constantly learning and applying new lessons in my daily life.

I remain deeply grateful to God for guiding me through every phase of my journey.

  2. This is such a deeply moving and inspiring reflection, Girish ji. 🙏Turning pain into strength and embracing responsibility with courage is not something everyone can do. Your journey truly speaks of resilience and growth.I especially loved the mention of Shoshin the idea of always remaining a learner, no matter how much we know. Difficult phases often reveal our true potential, and your story beautifully reflects that. 🤍✨
