My Dream Home: From Owning a House to Imagining the Perfect One

Daily writing prompt
Write about your dream home.

I think I have already answered this prompt earlier, so this time I’ll try to look at it from a different angle.

“A house is made of bricks and beams. A home is made of hopes and dreams.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dream home.

The desire to have my own house was planted in my mind about six years ago. Somehow, I managed to achieve that goal in four years. Now, a new desire has taken shape, the desire for my dream home.

With my present house, I’m not able to design everything as per my requirements. We bought an already constructed, new independent home, so there were limitations from the beginning.

When I think of my dream home, I imagine it being designed by the best architect. It would have a large space to build upon grand staircase, a big hallway, my own personal library, spacious recreational rooms, sprawling gardens, and unique architecture. Overall, it would feel like a private mansion.

These ideas are largely inspired by the Netflix show The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes. The series explores some truly beautiful and unique homes across the world, and I became a huge fan of it. I would love to have a home like that something with a distinct identity, unlike any other, and environmentally friendly as well.

The home’s electricity would be generated through solar power. Water needs would be met through rainwater harvesting and recycling. Construction materials would include natural stone and wood wherever necessary, with minimal use of cement and concrete.

It would also have a small farm where essential vegetables are grown at home. The garden would be filled with a wide variety of flowering plants, fruit trees, and greenery.

Of course, there should be a swimming pool. I don’t know how to swim yet, but I’d happily learn especially for this. Maybe I’d add a badminton court too. And a garage that can comfortably fit two or three cars.

This is how I currently imagine my dream home and this home may not take shape immediately, but it already exists clearly in my mind. And sometimes, that clarity itself is the first foundation stone.

If you have any other suggestions, they are always welcome.

  1. Things are created twice, and since they are already created in your mind, time comes, you’ll be living this dream. I just want a small cabin, not a humongous house you’ve described here.🤭🤩 Different happiness, I guess?🤗
