What’s Your Dream Job? A Thoughtful Take on Passion and Purpose

Daily writing prompt
What’s your dream job?

I think whatever we do with passion will be our dream job. But certain circumstances may change our work in general. Somewhere I had read yesterday, we have to do this to earn, to support our family. But that doesn’t mean we have given up, we can still pursue our dreams even while doing the work to support our family.

When I was young, I always wanted either to be a doctor especially heart surgeon or an archaeologist. I can say both didn’t come to pass, but I’m grateful for my career journey until now. I learnt so many things and went to 4 corners of India(had to travel in my previous company) in my professional career. My only regret is I couldn’t travel abroad during my travels.

Perhaps, I may travel for leisure instead of professional work 😉

Ultimately, a dream job is not just a designation—it’s work done with passion. Ideally, this passion is discovered early and supported by family. But even without support, an individual can still reach their dream by balancing responsibility with persistence. What truly matters is being aware of that dream and continuing to move toward it, no matter how slow the progress may seem.

  1. Whenever you’re passionate with your work, everything falls into place. Work that can travel no sounds good, too

  3. What stands out here is how the question shifts from what we do to why we stay. Dream jobs tend to evolve as people do, and purpose often shows up less as a destination and more as alignment over time. Work feels meaningful when it supports growth, contribution, and sustainability rather than just passion in isolation.

    1. Yes, dream jobs tend to evolve over time and the purpose doesn’t feel right. But our work or job whatever we do is not only just following our passion but also it should be helpful to other or serve others around us.
      There’s 2 points here :
      1) Work we do, we have to enjoy, be passionate and get the self satisfaction of doing it which most of us doesn’t get much. We have to do what we love isn’t it? 2) Then we have to server others and earn money which in turn supports us including our family, etc. As you had mentioned, it should have growth, contribution and sustainability.

I believe it should be a perfect balance between all of this 😁…..don’t you think?

      1. Well said. What stands out is the distinction between passion as a starting point and contribution as a sustaining force. Enjoyment and purpose matter, but without structure that supports growth, service, and economic sustainability, even meaningful work becomes fragile. The balance you describe is less about tradeoffs and more about alignment between what fulfills the individual and what continues to function for others over time.

      2. Thanks, what I shared in my blog post mainly focused on what I couldn’t do due to circumstances at that time. I have missed the part of “alignment between what fulfills the indiv…..”. Thank you once again for deeper introspection and insight on this topic😀👍
