From Half Pencil to Fountain Pen: My Journey of Growing Up

Daily writing prompt
When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

I believe we have to stay young at heart. In my life, I’ve had different moments when I felt grown up. As far as I can remember, when I was in primary school, when I first full pencil, I felt like a grown up. You are probably wondering “full pencil”, that’s because when I was in kindergarten, my mom used to give half a pencil to write with at school. A full pencil was broken in half and was given to me for school writing purposes.

When I entered primary school, for the first time, I received full pencil, I felt very proud and happy that I have grown up. As school years went by, I shifted to pen for writing purposes. That was the norm in our school days, when we reached a certain grade in school, we can write with pen instead of pencil.

Unlike others who wrote with ball point pen, I used fountain pen and it was a very “royal” feeling for me. It showed that I’m grown up and unique.

Similarly, there are so many incidences like my first college day, my first novel, etc, they all gave me extreme joy and happiness. As I said, we may grow up into adulthood, but we have to stay young at heart. In my case, even my physique suggests youthfulness—which I’m truly grateful for—but I’ve come to embrace the fact that I’m grown up now.
